Today’s intelligent robotic systems are increasingly complex, demanding advanced edge AI solutions that provide features such as efficient AI acceleration, real-time processing, reliable vision and sensor integration, and optimal motion control.

Intel provides key products and technologies designed to meet the demands of advanced robotics solutions like AAEON’s CEXD-INTRBL, an open robotics development system powered by the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processor.

A compact edge system designed to help solution builders for advanced robotics applications, such as humanoid robots, AMRs, and other physical AI deployments.

Intel’s technologies are tailored to accelerate AI and analytics at the edge. In the CEXD-INTRBL open robotics system, the Intel Core Ultra X7 358H processor provides a performance hybrid architecture supporting up to 16 CPU cores for simultaneous task execution in applications in demanding workloads.

For seamless performance and AI acceleration,  the CEXD-INTRBL leverages the disaggregated architecture of the new Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors platform, which sees an integrated Intel Arc B390 graphics and NPU provide up to 180 TOPS of AI performance.as such, the system is well-equipped to efficiently process multiple data streams from cameras and sensors while maintaining the headroom needed to run AI task loads such as object detection, image classification, person tracking, and other computer vision and graphics workloads without the need for an external GPU.

Additional features of the CEXD-INTRBL include 64GB of onboard LPDDR5 running at up to 8533MT/s. This high-throughput memory and large capacity are ideal for running complex AI models at the edge while simultaneously ingesting and buffering massive, high-bandwidth data streams. The platform supports 256GB of NVMe storage by default via an M.2 2280 M-Key slot. For wireless networking, the CEXD-INTRBL provides both an M.2 2230 E-Key and M.2 2280 B-Key slot, supporting the installation of Wi-Fi and 4G/5G modules, respectively.

With support for up to six GMSL cameras via two FAKRA connectors, the CEXD-INTRBL is able to transmit high-resolution, multi-view visual data over longer distances at remarkably high framerates. Combined with the system’s exceptionally fast Intel Core Ultra base, this grants high-speed perception of a robot’s surroundings, making it ideal for applications that rely on real-time object detection and collision avoidance, such as AMRs.

With four USB Type-C ports, the CEXD-INTRBL is designed to support a multitude of peripherals required for accurate data acquisition, including LiDAR, infrared, and depth sensors and cameras. Additionally, a multipurpose HAT 40 GPIO gives the CEXD-INTRBL a means through which to interface with critical robotics peripherals for temperature control, battery management, and internal balance control.

Wired networking capabilities come via four 2.5GbE LAN ports with IEEE 1588 PTP (Precision Time Protocol), which use Intel Ethernet Controller I226-V. Critical for joint, actuator and motion control in robotics applications, these provide a way to ensure precise torque, velocity, and position control, as well as coordinated multi-joint motion.

Finally, the OpenVINO Toolkit for open-source AI software supports the CEXD-INTRBL solution’s integrated CPU, GPU, and NPU acceleration.
