Hello Embedded Professionals, Engineers, and Developers! Welcome to In Case You Missed it, the weekly news show all about Embedded technologies and solutions from Embedded Computing Design.

It’s Friday September 4, 2026, I’m Ken Briodagh, Editor in Chief of Embedded Computing Design, it back to school time, and these are our top stories this week.

First up, our Production and News Editor Chad Cox visited a John Deere event this week and John Deere has announced JD, an AI assistant built into Deere’s Operations Center to give farmers a solution for putting collected data into meaningful actionable items just by asking questions. JD was designed to aid in improving yields, drive savings, and enhance profitability via AI. Check it out.

Our next story comes from SECO. SECO has announced early sample access for a limited quantity of its SOM-SMARC-Dragonwing-IQ8 hardware allowing the evaluation of the SMARC Rel. 2.1.1 module based on Dragonwing IQ8 Series. The module was engineered as part of a collaboration between SECO, Arduino, and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. It is designed to enable users to move from rapid prototyping to production-oriented architectures for AI-enabled robotics, smart machines, industrial vision, HMI, and machine control.

Finally, we’re featuring Renesas, which has officially opened its Physical AI and Robotics Lab in Beijing, China. The lab will facilitate users in demonstrating, validating, and collaborating in the design of next-generation robotic systems. The company says this lab will serve as a center for fulfilling Renesas’ physical AI strategy from proof-of-concept to deployment at scale.

In the Ken’s Trends segment Ken talks about Agriculture Tech. This segment is brought to you by our newest YouTube show, launching September 14: SystemChat.
