It’s Friday August 28, 2026, I’m Ken Briodagh, Editor in Chief of Embedded Computing Design and these are our top stories this week.
First up, according to new Intel research, titled “The Robotics Readiness Gap,” robotics is the way forward for next five years, but most companies are expanding at a quicker pace than what their operating models can support. The research defined five factors that separate successful robotic readiness programs to those that are just thinking about implementation: Strategy, Skills, Safety, Shape, and Scale. In Edge AI news, NVIDIA has introduced its Jetson Orin Nano 2, a robotics computer engineered to redefine entry-level edge AI by placing generative AI in the hands of Edge designers. According to NVIDIA, the Jetson Orin Nano 2 has twice the inference performance of Jetson Orin Nano Super through improved Tensor Cores and higher memory bandwidth, while consuming 40 percent less power to deliver the same performance as its predecessor.
Our next story comes from SiFive. The company has introduced the BigSky SF-2U870 datacenter development platform, which the company calls the world’s first enterprise-grade, rackable 2U RISC-V server. It is designed to accelerate RISC-V datacenter software porting, workload optimization, and system validation, and complies with the RVA23 standard and eliminates the need for complex custom porting allowing for out-of-the-box deployment of enterprise software environments.
Finally, we’re featuring Raspberry Pi, which has released its Compute Module 5 Programming Jig. It is a single-head provisioning system engineered to program one Compute Module 5 (CM5) at a time with an operating system and security configuration. To automate provisioning workflow, users can go to github.com for setup help. The jig is capable of general configurations like secure boot implementation, full disk encryption, and custom OS installation.
