Embedded systems today often demand low-power consumption, high-performance, and reliable security and operation. FPGAs that operate in networking, industrial, defense, commercial aviation, and Industry 4.0 environments rely on these key features to meet the demands of evolving embedded industries.
Security, reliability, and efficiency are features that stand out in the Microchip Technology PolarFire FPGAs, designed to enable low power in mid-range industrial and network designs.

PolarFire FPGAs in Action
In industrial automation, Internet of Things (IoT), and other relevant markets, these FPGAs provide efficient bandwidth processing and combine mid-range densities with 12.7Gbps serializer/deserializer (SerDes) transceivers to support converged 10Gbps ports.
The Microchip Technology PolarFire FPGAs feature a cost-optimized architecture, supporting devices with up to 500K logic elements. The transceiver implementation is tuned for high-speed performance, optimized for 12.7Gbps, which yields a smaller size and reduced power.
To support SGMII and GbE interface links on GPIOs, the PolarFire series equips 1.6Gbps I/Os with hardened gearing logic and clock/data recovery.
For power optimization, FPGAs support high-performance, integrated hard security IP, like DDR PHY, PCIe endpoint or root port capability, for mid-range devices, and include a cryptoprocessor designed to reduce external component count and simplify system design. Additionally, the low-power Flash Freeze mode supports standby power efficiency.
Getting Started with the PolarFire FPGAs
The PolarFire FPGAs, according to the company, deliver up to 50% lower power than equivalent SRAM FPGAs with the support of nonvolatile Flash technology. The devices also provide 1/10 static power for low idle consumption.
For reliability and cybersecurity concerns, the architecture of the PolarFire FPGAs addresses issues involving deep sub-micron SRAM-based devices’ single-event upset risks (SEUs) in configuration memory.
PolarFire Devices provide an extended commercial temperature range from 0ºC to +100ºC and an industrial range of -40ºC to +100ºC. The Microchip Technology PolarFire FPGAs are also available in small form factors for mid-range density devices.
