Toradex announced the Aquila IQ8, its first System on Module (SoM) powered by the Qualcomm Dragonwing IQ-8275 processor. The SoM is ideal for OEMs designing robotics, computer vision, and industrial edge systems, as the module runs demanding edge AI workloads directly on the device.
“As AI accelerates from the lab to real-world industrial systems and beyond, performance alone isn't enough. Success depends on turning advanced technology into scalable products that can be deployed, maintained and continuously improved. The Aquila combines the Qualcomm Dragonwing IQ-8275 with the high-quality engineering, software platform and long-term lifecycle support that Toradex is known for." says Samuel Imgrueth, CEO of Toradex. "The result is a production-ready foundation that helps OEMs bring intelligent products to market faster and support them throughout their lifecycle."
The Aquila System on Module family pairs a rugged 400-pin board-to-board connector with modern high-speed interfaces, efficient 1.8V I/O, the Direct Breakout carrier-board approach, and modular thermal options. Toradex's Aquila IQ8 is backed by its proven product-ownership model that combines rigorous hardware validation, in-house BSP development, and dedicated engineering support throughout the product lifecycle.
The Aquila IQ8 is designed for advanced computer vision, generative AI, local Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models, and responsive inference while running at the edge, not in the cloud.
According to the press release, Toradex plans to make Aquila IQ8 samples available in the first half of 2027, with long-term availability planned through at least 2038.
