Silicon Labs' new SiMG301 is the first wireless SoC built on a 22-nanometer (nm) process node, according to the company. Representing an increase in performance and integration, the SiMG301 is designed to deliver advanced compute power, flexible memory, security, and streamlined external component integration. Purpose-built for line-powered smart devices, it offers the ideal LED lighting solution for Bluetooth, Zigbee, and Matter over Thread applications.

Silicon Labs recently announced an MCU that has achieved the highest level of security possible to date, which is PSA Level 4. The questions you may be asking are, “What does that mean, and is this something I need to understand?” 

To get answers to these questions and many related ones, I spoke to Sharon Hagi, the Chief Security Officer at Silicon Labs, on this week’s Embedded Executives podcast. You may be surprised by his responses, that not every design needs this level of security.

Austin, Texas. Silicon Labs recently publicized that part of its Series 3 platform, the SiXG301 SoC has become the world’s first PSA Certified Level 4 iSE/SE certified device. Introduced with two designations, iSE/SE for secure elements and ROT for Root of Trust, Level 4 extends resilience against laser fault injection, side-channel attacks, microprobing, and voltage manipulation.

Today, there is a continuous need for low-power wireless connectivity solutions that can provide energy efficiency and high performance in demanding applications, ranging from smart homes and lighting to portable medical devices and AI/ML. These solutions are often faced with performing complex tasks while supporting communication protocols reliably and flexibly.
