PCI Systems, a supplier of conduction cooled systems, has announced a 3U VPX Gen3 8x Lane PCIe to VPX adapter. The 3U VPX to PCIe Adapter acts as a PCIe switch, providing an electrically and mechanically optimized interface between PCIe boards and VPX systems.

The adapter includes a PCIe switch chip. All modern operating systems can treat a PCIe switch in a plug and play manner, meaning that the switch remains virtually transparent, as if the PCIe component(s) behind the switch on the secondary PCIe bus were part of the primary PCIe bus.

Using the PCIe-Adapter/switch allows standard PCIe boards to work in a VPX system and it is both a reliable technical solution, and a smart economical decision. The PCIe-Adapter frees the system integrator from the need of a redesign of PCIe cards already available to the VPX standard.
