SMASHv2 enables real-time compression and de-compression for embedded systems, requiring only 1 KB of ROM for compression and roughly 0.5 KB of ROM for decompression.
MONHEIM, GERMANY. SEGGER has announced the SMASHv2 lossless compression algorithm for resource-constrained systems to its emCompress-ToGo tool. SMASHv2 enables real-time compression and de-compression for embedded systems, requiring only 1 KB of ROM for compression and roughly 0.5 KB of ROM for decompression.
Compared to its predecessor, the emCompress-ToGo SMASHv2 algorithm provides better compression and smaller code. The tool uses a flexible API that requires only one parameter for compression and decompression directly to/from memory or application functions.
The tool enables users to:
• Store firmware images or FPGA bitstreams in less ROM
• Reduce the size of stored data for data loggers and transferring data to processing servers
• Enable wireless updating through compression
Trial versions for any Cortex-M-based target system and the Windows OS are available for downlod. More information can be found at www.segger.com/products/compression/emcompress/emcompress-togo.
