Wolfspeed introduced their 5th generation (C5D) 1700V SiC Schottky diode, which is optimized for renewable energy, industrial power, and electric vehicle charging applications. Available in both bare die and packaged formats, the device joins the current line of 1700V MOSFETs, with an optimized TO-247-4 Plus package providing extra electrical isolation.
These Schottky diodes have essentially no switching losses due to nearly zero reverse recovery and a very low forward voltage drop. The C5D product family combines these features with the TO-247-2 package option, suitable for high-pollution environments such as off-board battery chargers and solar inverters. A direct drop-in replacement for the 3rd-gen 1700V product, the family boasts current ratings at voltages of 5A, 10A, 25A, and 50A.
