Touchscreens are an increasingly common interface that allow for an intuitive way for people to interact with their devices. Cars increasingly have dash touch interfaces, smart watches use touch, and I’ve started seeing touch controls in higher-end appliances. Soon touchscreens may be the standard interface in consumer devices besides smartphones and tablets.
Interacting with Internet of Things (IoT) data in smart home, wearables, and other IoT embedded systems will increasingly rely on this common interface so humans can interact with and manipulate the data to use it to their advantage.
Computer Science Zone put together an infographic on the history of touchscreen – I didn’t know touchscreens go back to 1965, and I bet you can’t guess when the first touchscreen phone came out – how they work, their benefits and drawbacks, and projections for the future of the technology.
