Compact RF measurement system is optimized for quickly measuring device radiation patterns in a lab environment
MegiQ RMS-0640/0660 Radiation Measurement System from Saelig |
Saelig Company, Inc. has introduced the portable, compact MegiQ RMS-0640/0660 Radiation Measurement Systems, turnkey systems that can measure antenna and equipment radiation patterns and Total Radiated Power (TRP) of an RF device from 600MHz to 4/6GHz. The RMS-06x0 system consists of a measurement antenna, a measurement receiver with optional signal generator, a motorized turntable, and application software for system control and calculations. This system removes the need for an expensive anechoic chamber for most applications. Moderate lab space is all that is needed in order to obtain accurate 3-axis radiation patterns and TRP calculations. Extensive testing and comparison with anechoic test lab measurements has shown that the measurement accuracy of the RMS-06x0 approximates very well to anechoic measurements.
The application software provided makes the measurement procedure straightforward. It provides for storage and reporting of the experimental results, which can be presented in Field Strength, ERP and antenna gain. Total Radiated Power and other statistics are calculated from 3-axis rotations. Total Isotropic Sensitivity (TIS) of a wireless device can also be calculated to comply with certain classes of device.
Two turntables are available for the RMS-06x0 package, a light-weight turntable for small products and a heavy duty table for larger devices. The measurement unit has a dual channel receiver that allows measuring two polarizations in one rotation, allowing a 3-axis measurement to be taken in less than 2 minutes.
Devices under test can be measured standalone in constant carrier mode, while a separate generator output is available that allows for full characterization and frequency sweep of custom antennas and prototypes.
One of the most important properties of a wireless device is how much it actually radiates, or the efficiency of an antenna. This is typically measured in an anechoic chamber at an expensive test lab. Another time-consuming and somewhat inaccurate method is by moving around the product in an open field. Many wireless developers don’t have the large budget for a conventional radiation test setup, or the time to perform open range testing. The RMS-06x0 gives a true and rapid insight into a product’s RF performance for a fractional cost of alternative methods.
Made in The Netherlands by MegiQ, a developer of low cost RF test and measurement tools, the RMS-06x0 Radiation Measurement System is available now from Saelig Company, Inc. their USA technical distributor.
