Walnut, CA – Adding touchscreen and IoT functions to a device or piece of equipment are more difficult when the device is designed to be small, or must operate in an area that limits access to power. Bringing touchscreen and IoT functions to an existing piece of equipment or building can be even more challenging for the same reason – running power lines is more challenging than running simple communication cable. Habey’s new OPC-4207 Open Frame Touch Screen Panel PC offers the easy option of Power Over Ethernet (POE), making it as easy to operate as plugging in a properly configured network cable. Much more reliable than tablet based systems, the embedded PC offers an extremely rugged, long life cycle that substantially reduces TOC (Total Ownership Cost).

The all-in-one PC, operating on the NXP i.MX6 ARM Cortex 9 platform with long life-cycle support, can be configured to run Android 6.0.1, Debian Linux, and Yocto Embedded Linux, depending on the requirements of the application. The open frame design makes the PC an ideal choice for any type of enclosure – especially in devices with their own bezel or where the touchscreen must be recessed. The 7” resistive or projected capacitive touch screen is bright enough to view in most lighting conditions (400 cd/m), and the extremely rugged unit works well in temperatures ranging from -28 to 140°F, making it an excellent choice for indoor, outdoor, and vehicle mounted IoT applications from vending to industrial automation.

Unlike putting a tablet in a frame, at the heart of the OPC-4207 lies Habey’s EMB-3200 embedded motherboard, which is itself built around Habey’s EMB-1200 HIO project modular design board. The EMB-3200 is the ideal board for any type of embedded operation, with dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, wide range DC input voltage support, and integrated support for multiple size LCD panels, including an FPC cable connector that supports the 7” panel on the OPC-4207 or another panel for other embedded applications.

Perhaps the most pertinent aspect of the EMB-3200 is the on-board POE (Power Over Ethernet) option, which makes any type of embedded function as easy as running network cable. The 802.3af POE setup provides enough power to fully operate the motherboard, and attached touchscreens up to significant size and brightness. This makes the unit extremely useful for tight spaces, automating existing structures or equipment, and for equipment that can otherwise be set up quickly.

The small form factor board operates on an NXP i.MX6 1GHz Dual Lite or Quad processor, 1GB on-board DDR3 RAM, and on-board NAND flash. In addition to two Gigabit Ethernet ports, the system offers USB connectivity, LCDS display connectivity, RS-232 and 485 internal headers, a CAN Bus internal header for in vehicle applications, and a mini-PCIe USB socket with SIM card connectivity.
