PoE upgrade for existing IP infrastructure
Power over Ethernet (PoE) is playing an increasingly important role for applications such as machine vision, surveillance and access control. On the one hand, the number of PoE-enabled devices is constantly increasing, while on the other, the technology enables simplified installation, lower costs and higher power savings.
The new 2- and 4-port Power-over-Ethernet GPOE expansion cards from ICP Deutschland combine these advantages in a compact 130/160x65mm format. They are based on a PCI Express x1 interface. The physical Ethernet interfaces are certified according to IEEE 802.3az standard, making them particularly energy-efficient with low data activity and saving unnecessary power. The PoE functionality is certified according to IEEE 802.3at/af. While the GPOE-2P offers up to 30W /52VDC per port, the GPOE-4P offers a choice of two modes. This means it can supply P.D. capable Ethernet devices in standard mode with 15.4W each or in dual port mode with 30W per port. In that way, it provides a maximum power supply of up to 60W, thus the basis for a successful setup of surveillance applications.
IP and surveillance cameras or payment terminals in buses can be supplied with power via standard CAT-5 / CAT-6 cables with a range of up to 100m and simultaneously transmit, monitor and control the recorded data. Access controls can also be implemented without large installation costs by integrating PoE-enabled devices such as door and locking systems or RFID readers into the existing IP infrastructure using the GPOE cards. In addition, an operating temperature of 0°C to 60°C and an input voltage of 12V~24VDC provide sufficient flexibility for the user.
