Nordic Semiconductor Adds nRF52805 Bluetooth 5.2 SoC to nRF52 Series

Nordic Semiconductor announced the release of the nRF52805 Bluetooth 5.2 System-on-Chip (SoC). The ultra-low power Bluetooth LE SoC is the seventh addition to the company's nRF52 series.

Nordic Semiconductor announced the release of the nRF52805 Bluetooth 5.2 System-on-Chip (SoC). The ultra-low power Bluetooth LE SoC is the seventh addition to the company’s nRF52 series.

Nordic Semiconductor’s director of product management, Kjetil Holstad, said in a press release, "The SoC brings a rare combination of size and cost enabling manufacturers to extend the nRF52 Series' maturity and reliability to a whole new range of tiny and inexpensive wireless peripheral designs."

It’s supplied wafer level chip scale package (WLCSP) measuring just 2.48 x 2.46mm. The need for a four-layer PCB is eliminated due to the fact that the nRF52805 is optimized for two-layer PCB designs.

Feature of the new SoC per a press release include:

  • 64-MHz 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M4 processor
  • 192KB Flash
  • 24KB RAM
  • Up to +4dBm power output
  • -97dBm sensitivity
  • Link budget of 101dBm
  • Peak power draw of 4.6mA (TX 0dBM, RX 1Mbps)
  • Current draw of 0.3µA in System OFF and 1.1µA in System ON
  • Analog and digital interfaces such as SPI, UART, and TWI
  • Two-channel 12-bit ADC
  • 10 GPIOs

The nRF52805 is supported by S112 SoftDevice. Per the company, support for the S113 is soon to follow. Both SoftDevices are memory-optimized peripheral stack, supporting high-throughput 2 Mbps and CSA #2 features.
