Avnet Embedded Announces High-Performance COM Express Module Family

Avnet Embedded expanded its COM Express product portfolio with the new MSC C6B-TLH COM Express Type 6 module family based on 11th Generation Intel CoreTM H-Series processors (formerly codenamed “Tiger Lake - H”), offering high computing, graphics, and video performance.

The MSC C6B-TLH COM Express module family offers high scalability to provide developers with a selection of CPU variants with different computing performance and power dissipation. Due to the large number of module variants, the embedded solution can be utilized for different applications.

All high-end MSC C6B-TLH modules based on Intel Xeon W-11000E series processors are designed for reliable operation thanks to their robust design. In addition, some variants are specified for use in the industrial ambient temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Per the company, this is the first time that powerful Computer-On-Modules (COMs) are offered for industrial applications with high demands, for example, for use in harsh environments or outdoors. For general embedded applications, the MSC C6B-TLH module family can be equipped with 11th Generation Intel Core vPro Processors or Intel Celeron processors.

Thanks to the PCI Express connections with PCIe Gen 3 and PCI Gen 4 bandwidths, the MSC C6B-TLH modules are suited for applications with considerable I/O traffic. The integrated Intel Ethernet Controller I225-V delivers 1GbE and 2.5GbE bandwidths and supports Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) for real-time applications. For real-time applications, the Intel Xeon W-11000E Series processors based modules support Intel TCC (Intel Time Coordinated Computing).

Avnet Embedded’s MSC C6B-TLH COM ExpressTM Type 6 module family is suitable for demanding IoT and AI applications in the medical, gaming, video processing, industrial automation, professional security, and transportation markets. Examples are intelligent camera systems that can be used for process control in industry, in the public safety sector or for traffic monitoring even in harsh environments.

Due to the advanced 10 nm SuperFin process technology and the new processor architecture the processors offer high computing performance and AI acceleration. Some variants integrate IoT specific features like extended temperature range and real-time capabilities. The processors vary from two cores/two hyper threads till eight cores/16 hyper threads. The thermal design power (TDP) is 25W or 45/35W depending on the processor type. The implemented Intel UHD graphics ensures high graphics performance.

The MSC C6B-TLH module family is available with up to 64 GB dual-channel DDR4- 3200 SDRAM memory. Some variants feature error correcting code (ECC) capability for protecting code and data kept in memory. The integrated Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 ensures high data security.

The MSC C6B-TLH modules can drive up to four independent 4k displays. Three DisplayPort/HDMI interfaces and one LVDS and Embedded DisplayPort interface are available as graphic interfaces. The selection of fast I/Os includes eight PCIe Gen 3 lanes, a 16 lane PEG port with PCIe Gen 3 and Gen 4, four USB 3.1 and eight USB 2.0 interfaces, two UARTs, and one 1/2.5Gb Ethernet port. Mass storage devices can be connected via four SATA 6Gb/s channels. Optionally, the boards are equipped with up to 1 TB NVMe SSD.

Avnet Embedded assists customers with an entire ecosystem of suitable starter kit, board support package, and design-in support. The available boards are developed by Avnet Embedded in its own design centers and manufactured in-house in automated production facilities.
