MediaTek, Intel Advance Partnership with T700 5G Modem

MediaTek announced it has enhanced its collaboration with Intel to further the 5G experience in next-generation PCs with development and certification of its 5G modem data card, the T700.

MediaTek announced it has enhanced its collaboration with Intel to further the 5G experience in next-generation PCs with development and certification of its 5G modem data card, the T700.

The T700 5G modem completed 5G standalone (SA) calls in real world test scenarios. In addition to the test completions, Intel has advanced its system integration, validation, and development of platform optimizations – the company is readying co-engineering support for OEM partners.

 “Our partnership with Intel is a natural extension of our growing 5G mobile business and is an incredible market opportunity for MediaTek to move into the PC market,” said president of MediaTek Joe Chen, in a press release. “With Intel’s deep expertise in the PC space and our groundbreaking 5G modem technology, we will redefine the laptop experience and bring consumers the best 5G experiences.”

The new modem from MediaTek supports both standalone and non-standalone Sub-6 5G network architectures, offerings faster speeds and reliable connectivity. With use of the T700, users can browse, stream, and game at ultra-fast 5G speeds. Battery life of laptops is also extended due to high power efficiency.

Per the company, it is rolling out its advanced 5G technology across the PC, mobile, home, auto and IoT segments to make super-fast connectivity accessible to everyone.

The first laptops featuring the T700 are expected by early 2021.
