Vicor announced the release of the 4609 ChiP-set for enhanced performance of GPU, CPU, ASIC ("XPU") processors.

Vicor announced the release of the 4609 ChiP-set for enhanced performance of GPU, CPU, ASIC (“XPU”) processors.  An MCD4609 driver, coupled with two MCM4609 current multiplier modules, supply up to 650A continuous and 1,200A peak. Additionally, it is power with 48V.

The ChiP-set is able to power GPU and OCP Accelerator Module (OAM) Artificial Intelligent (AI) cards.

The current multipliers are homed near the processor to help reduce power distribution network (PDN) losses and higher power system efficiency.

The company’s new tech adds to its Power-on-Package portfolio of Lateral Power Delivery (LPD) solutions. Further, the company is operating with vertical power delivery (VPD) to heighten the capability limits of LPD. According to the company, the VPD system delivers current from power converters vertically stacked under a processor through a capacitor network geared to a processor-specific pin-map.
