Qt and LG Electronics Join Forces on webOS for Automotive, Robotics and Smart Homes

Qt to provide LG with the most comprehensive development environment to deliver innovative user experiences for next generation embedded devices in automotive, robotics and smart home sectors.

The Qt Company is extending its enduring partnership with LG Electronics by releasing an open source webOS for embedded smart devices.

Since the company’s inception, the user experience (UX) has been one of Qt’s areas of concentration, providing a new approach to AI, IoT and automation. Qt’s collaboration with LG will yield an impactful end-to-end, integrated and hardware-agnostic growth environment for developers, engineers and designers to create original and immersive apps and devices, making webOS the official reference operating system of Qt.

The companies’ alliance will assist customers in using webOS’ developed set of middleware-enabled operation, including features for automotive, connectivity, media and content services.

“webOS has an extensive middleware set for media, as Qt brings a GUI framework to auto, becoming a full-fledged platform for OEMs,” said Juhapekka Niemi, Qt’s Executive Vice President. “We have a stronghold in the developer market and we’re very happy to see LG as a strategy partner. Having the big brand helps us really go after a lot of new embedded innovations where there is a lot of need in the market for ready-made stacks.”
